With the arrival of the spring of 1861 and the Civil War, North Carolina’s history changed. So too did the stories of her people – soldiers, slaves, and families – as lives were forever changed by the war and its aftermath.
Our State‘s popular series, “The Civil War in North Carolina,” continues to tell those everyday stories in the pages of the magazine. Now, we’re inviting our readers share their personal family stories from the Civil War by submitting those to “North Carolina Stories of the Civil War: An Online Collection.” View submitted stories here.
Passed down through the generations either in written form or oral histories, your family stories can shed additional light on how this time in our nation’s history affected North Carolinians and the nation. Submit your story today. This collection is presented by Visit Kinston.
