Marketing Director

Our State magazine is searching for a dynamic, curious, creative, and self-motivated individual to serve as Marketing Director. As the leader of the marketing team, you will successfully develop and execute strategies for maximum positive publicity for the Our State brand.

Ideally, you should also understand tourism, the arts, or related creative fields. You would be the director of WOW for Our State, a 90-year-old award-winning publication.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Implement events, public relations, and digital campaigns to ensure the high visibility and continued growth of Our State.
  • Use both traditional and innovative approaches to public relations, digital efforts, and special events.
  • Develop and execute strategic efforts to promote both the magazine and events, achieving significant increases in brand awareness and consumer engagement.
  • Leads and participates as a member of a team to move the Our State brand forward.
  • Develop relationships with organizations, businesses, and key media outlets across the state to establish opportunities to promote and showcase the Our State brand.
  • Understand, articulate, and advocate the Our State brand to the media, consumers, and community.
  • Develop compelling story angles to promote the monthly issue of the magazine, special interest publications, and inserts.
  • Oversee coordination of television appearances and interviews.
  • Manage the operations manager, and event coordinator to develop special events, including festival appearances, boutique events, sponsorship events, premier events, etc.
  • Oversee the event staff to assist with selection, training, and event preparation.
  • Actively contribute to Our State social media outlets.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship and open communication with editorial, digital, sales, circulation, store, and production departments.
  • Sets high standards of performance; assumes responsibility for work objectives; accomplishes goals; proactively takes action, and will go beyond what is required.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or marketing.
  • Must understand and have a working knowledge of the latest digital products, and platforms, including trends and patterns.
  • Minimum of 5 years in marketing, public relations, and/or community relations or related field including supervisory experience.
  • Must have a high energy level, an outgoing personality, and a sense of urgency.
  • Must display a passion for North Carolina and Our State.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Availability to work some weekends and evenings throughout the year.
  • Ability to balance demands of multiple tasks and deadlines.
