Itinerary:
DAY 1: ARRIVE IN DETROIT
Upon arrival in Detroit, meet your tour director and transfer to your hotel in Dearborn for a two-night stay. Tonight, enjoy a wine and beer reception and a Welcome Dinner with fellow Our State travelers.

DAY 2: FORD FACTORY & VILLAGE
This morning, visit the famous Ford River Rouge complex, a modern marvel of 21st century manufacturing where Ford F-150 trucks are built. Then, visit the Henry Ford Museum, known as the greatest auto collection documenting the American experience. See the bus where Rosa Parks took a stand in 1955, the chair in which Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, the limousine where President Kennedy was shot, and much more. Then, visit Greenfield Village, established by Henry Ford in 1929 as a living history museum to celebrate the American spirit from pioneer days to modern times. Also, ride in a Model T car!

DAY 3: DEARBORN – MACKINAC ISLAND
Today, journey north to Mackinac Island. Your adventure begins with a 16-minute ferry ride in the shadow of the Mackinac Bridge. You’ll be greeted with the sights and sounds of the Victorian era, where transportation was by horse drawn carriage or bicycle. Step back in time for two nights at the Grand Hotel, Mackinac’s finest and most famous resort property. Dress up for an elegant dinner this evening. Each meal is truly special and few dining locations are more picturesque than Grand Hotel’s Main Dining Room. It overlooks the world’s longest porch displaying the hotel’s many American flags, as well as the glistening Straits of Mackinac. Sit down for dinner while enjoying music by the Grand Hotel Orchestra. You may even catch a glimpse of the bellmen taking down the flags for the day — a sunset tradition.

DAY 4: CARRIAGE RIDE – TIME AT LEISURE
Begin today with a horse-drawn carriage tour of Mackinac Island. Your private carriage will take you on a scenic tour of the famous West Bluff Victorian homes. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore the quaint town and more of the island. Don’t forget to try the fudge! Tonight’s dinner is in the Main Dining Room.

DAY 5: MACKINAC TO FRANKENMUTH
After breakfast, ride the ferry back to the mainland. Cross the Mighty Mac, one of the world’s longest suspension bridges, and later arrive in Frankenmuth. Enjoy this small city settled by Germans from the Bavarian region. The streets are lined with Bavarian style shops, including Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland and Frankenmuth River Place.

DAY 6: FRANKENMUTH – NIAGARA FALLS
Motor coach into Ontario, Canada*, and drive east to Niagara Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world. Later, enjoy the unique “Journey Behind the Falls” experience, where you descend 125 feet and explore 130-year-old tunnels carved through the bedrock. Feel the thunderous vibration of the Horseshoe Falls before arriving at the observation deck for an up close and possibly wet view of the falls. Later, check into your hotel for two nights in Niagara Falls.

DAY 7: NIAGARA FALLS AREA
A full day of incredible Niagara Falls Area Sightseeing awaits as you drive the scenic Niagara Parkway with stops at the Hydro Floral Clock and a visit the quaint town of Niagara- on-the-Lake which sits on Lake Ontario at the mouth of the Niagara River. Stop to experience the White Water Walk which offers a first- hand lesson the Niagara River’s whitewater rapids. Walk on a quarter-mile boardwalk with incredible views that will take your breath away! Later experience the legendary Niagara Falls Boat Tour for an up close encounter with the awe-inspiring thundering falls. Other than the falls themselves the boat excursion is the most famous attraction in the area. The Niagara Falls were created by glacier activity over 10,000 years ago, and the 3 waterfalls combine to produce the highest flow rate of any waterfall on earth. Tonight enjoy a Farewell Dinner at the world-famous revolving Skylon Tower which combines an exhilarating 52 second ride with the awe of seeing Niagara from 775 feet above the mighty Falls.

DAY 8: NIAGARA FALLS – BUFFALO – FLY HOME
Today motorcoach and cross the border back into the U.S. Visit Goat Island in Niagara Falls, NY for more views of the amazing falls. Then drive to the Buffalo airport for your flight home.

What to expect on an Our State trip:
Traveling with a group of Our State readers is an enriching, enjoyable, and safe way to experience new cultures, people, and places. In addition to the informative narration from the tour director and local guides, an Our State host will be available to assist in making your trip successful.
We usually fly to our destination, then travel by a comfortable motor coach with anywhere from 35 to 50 people who appreciate learning about new regions. Your entire trip will be guided, planned, and arranged for your upmost enjoyment. Many activities are things you can only do because you are traveling with Our State. There is some free time built in for you to explore on your own.
You can also choose not to attend an activity if you prefer something different. Please let your tour director know if you are not coming on a scheduled day.
Many meals are included. Where you have meals on your own, suggestions will be provided.
Most of the motor coaches have restrooms but every effort will be made to make regular rest stops.
One of the best parts of traveling with Our State is that you will meet new people, many of whom you will already have much in common with since most travelers read the magazine. Many guests often develop friendships that go on long after the tour is finished. Our State trips are generally filled with dynamic and friendly people.
Physical requirements:
Our tours are physically active but not meant to be strenuous.
Please be aware you will be on your feet, walking and standing for much of the day, indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions and terrains. There will also be extended time on the motor coach when we travel from place to place. If there are any mobility issues you will need to have an able-bodied traveling companion to accompany and assist you.
Most days are moderately paced with approximately two to three total miles of walking, possibly including some hills and stairs.
We regret that we’re unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs. The responsibility of the Trip Director who accompanies your trip is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest. Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.
