DAY 1 – DEC 30, 2024: ARRIVE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Welcome to beautiful Southern California. Upon arrival, transfer to your Orange County hotel for the next five nights. Orange County, or “The OC,” stands out as one of the state’s most iconic destinations, featuring manicured beach towns, celebrated theme parks, and incredible shopping, all framed by oceanfront towns and luxury yachts. Tonight, enjoy a Wine and Beer Reception, followed by a Welcome Dinner with your fellow Our State travelers.

DAY 2 – DEC 31, 2024: SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – NEWPORT BEACH – LAGUNA BEACH – NEW YEAR’S EVE!

This morning, sit back, relax, and explore some of Orange County’s most famous sights and beach towns. First, a short ride south brings you to San Juan Capistrano to visit the beautiful Mission San Juan Capistrano, one of the original missions built by the Spanish. Next, travel up the famous Highway 1 for spectacular coastal views. Drive through Dana Point and make stops to visit both Laguna Beach and Newport Beach, quaint seaside cities with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. After exploring Newport, take a short ride back to your hotel to get ready for a fun-filled evening. Enjoy an exciting night welcoming in the New Year during your New Year’s Eve Dinner Party. The event will be filled with dining, dancing, casino-style games, and a champagne toast to ring in the New Year!

DAY 3 – JAN 1, 2025: NEW YEAR’S DAY – ROSE PARADE – HOLLYWOOD TOUR

Happy New Year! Get up early this morning for breakfast and then it is off to experience the “parade of all parades” — the Tournament of Rose Parade. Enjoy reserved grandstand seats for the ultimate up-close viewing during the parade. Following the parade, enjoy lunch at the famous Lawry’s Restaurant in Beverly Hills. After lunch, embark on a panoramic Hollywood and Beverly Hills Tour, featuring Grauman’s Chinese Theater, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Rodeo Drive. Later, return to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day and evening at leisure.

DAY 4 – JAN 2, 2025: FLOATS ON DISPLAY – NIXON LIBRARY

This morning, enjoy the Showcase of Floats where the floral masterpieces are parked in Pasadena, allowing you to further appreciate the design and workmanship that go into their creation. Walk within a few feet of the floats and see the creativity and detail. Later, visit the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum featuring nearly 70 new exhibits, a replica of President Nixon’s Oval Office, the spectacular First Lady’s Garden, the President’s faithfully restored 1910 birthplace, a replica of the White House East Room, and the flower-ringed memorial sites of President and Mrs. Nixon. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

DAY 5 – JAN 3, 2025: SAN DIEGO CITY TOUR – SAN DIEGO HARBOR CRUISE

Today, travel south to visit San Diego. Enjoy a San Diego City Tour, including the historic Gaslamp District, the bustling Embarcadero, Balboa Park, and historic Old Town San Diego. This afternoon, enjoy a leisurely San Diego Harbor Cruise featuring views of the San Diego Skyline, Seaport Village, Coronado Bridge, Coronado Island, and sea life, along with facts and history about the unique waterfront. This evening, join your fellow travelers for a Farewell Dinner at a popular San Diego restaurant. After dinner, head back to your hotel.

DAY 6 – JAN 4, 2025: DEPART FOR HOME

What to expect on an Our State trip:

Traveling with a group of Our State readers is an enriching, enjoyable, and safe way to experience new cultures, people, and places. In addition to the informative narration from the tour director and local guides, an Our State host will be available to assist in making your trip successful.We usually fly to our destination, then travel by a comfortable motor coach with anywhere from 35 to 50 people who appreciate learning about new regions. Your entire trip will be guided, planned, and arranged for your upmost enjoyment. Many activities are things you can only do because you are traveling with Our State. There is some free time built in for you to explore on your own.You can also choose not to attend an activity if you prefer something different. Please let your tour director know if you are not coming on a scheduled day.Many meals are included. Where you have meals on your own, suggestions will be provided.Most of the motor coaches have restrooms but every effort will be made to make regular rest stops.One of the best parts of traveling with Our State is that you will meet new people, many of whom you will already have much in common with since most travelers read the magazine. Many guests often develop friendships that go on long after the tour is finished. Our State trips are generally filled with dynamic and friendly people.

 

Physical requirements:

Our tours are physically active but not meant to be strenuous.Please be aware you will be on your feet, walking and standing for much of the day, indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions and terrains. There will also be extended time on the motor coach when we travel from place to place. If there are any mobility issues you will need to have an able-bodied traveling companion to accompany and assist you.Most days are moderately paced with approximately two to three total miles of walking, possibly including some hills and stairs.We regret that we’re unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs. The responsibility of the Trip Director who accompanies your trip is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest.
