Where old-world cities meet sparkling seas, Croatia and Slovenia offer rich history and awe-inspiring views. From Croatia’s capital, Zagreb, we’ll venture into Slovenia, a hidden gem of alpine lakes, medieval castles, and vast caves waiting to be explored. Then, experience the best of Croatia as we wander Roman ruins and Baroque squares, savor fresh seafood and local wine, and admire landscapes shaped by time — from seaside cliffs to the cascading waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Day 1: Departure

Board your overnight flight to Europe.

 

Day 2: Arrive in Zagreb
Wednesday, October 28, 2026

Arrive in Zagreb, Croatia, meet your tour director, and transfer to your hotel for a wine and beer reception and welcome dinner with your fellow Our State travelers.

Day 3: Zagreb • Ljubljana
Thursday, October 29, 2026

Enjoy a walking tour of Zagreb to see the highlights of the city, including St. Stephen’s Cathedral, St. Mark’s Church, and the colorful Jelacic Square in the Upper Old Town. Then cross into Slovenia and travel to the capital city of Ljubljana, which draws influences from Central Europe and the Mediterranean and retains a small-town feel. This afternoon, take a walking tour to view the open-air market, the Baroque Venetian-inspired City Hall, Robba Fountain, and the Triple Bridge, which connects the old and new parts of the city and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later, check into your hotel in Ljubljana for two nights. Enjoy dinner with your fellow travelers at a local restaurant.

Day 4: Postojna Cave • Lake Bled • Bled Castle
Friday, October 30, 2026

A short ride south brings us to Postojna Cave, an almost 13-mile-long karst cave system where an electric train takes you deeper than is possible in any other cave in the world. Next, travel to Lake Bled to visit the imposing 11th-century Bled Castle, perched on a steep cliff high above the lake, creating a dramatic backdrop to the city. Stroll through the castle grounds and visit the museum to get insight into the history of the castle and the surrounding area. Return to Ljubljana and enjoy the evening at your own pace.

Day 5: Zadar • Split
Saturday, October 31, 2026

Sit back and admire the scenery as you travel south through Slovenia and back into
Croatia. Midday, stop in Zadar, the oldest Slavic town on the Adriatic Sea, situated on a long peninsula. Enjoy a walking tour of Zadar to see the Roman Forum archaeological site and the unique Sea Organ, which uses sea waves and a set of tubes underneath the marble steps to play music. Then travel along the rugged limestone coast and arrive in the city of Split to begin your two-night stay. Split is a quintessential Mediterranean city with a small-town vibe, a great pedestrian Old Town, and easy-going locals. After a long day, enjoy dinner with your fellow travelers.

Day 6: Diocletian’s Palace
Sunday, November 1, 2026

Begin the day with a Split walking tour, highlighted by a visit to the impressive Diocletian’s Palace. Built in the third and fourth centuries, the Historical Complex of Split with Diocletian’s Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Highlights of the palace include the Peristyle (the main open space), Jupiter’s Temple, and the cathedral, which was once the emperor’s mausoleum. Also see Kacic Square and the Franciscan Monastery. Then enjoy time at leisure to explore Old Town Split with its meandering pedestrian streets, shops, restaurants, and harbor views. The evening is at leisure to explore and dine at your own pace.

Day 7: Dalmatian Coast • Ston
Monday, November 2, 2026

Delight in a breathtaking drive along the spectacular Dalmatian Coast, dotted with palm trees, olive groves, and idyllic fishing villages. Stop to visit and explore the town of Ston, famous for its saltworks, oysters, and town walls, which are sometimes referred to as the “European Walls of China.” Later, arrive in Dubrovnik for your two-night stay. After settling into your hotel, enjoy dinner with your fellow travelers at a popular local restaurant.

Day 8: Dubrovnik
Tuesday, November 3, 2026

Take a morning walking tour of Dubrovnik, including the harbor area, the Franciscan Monastery, and the stately Baroque cathedral. Explore the walled Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with marble lanes and red-roofed buildings. The rest of the day is free for you to explore. Shop, dine, enjoy a café, and consider a walk on the famous city walls for fantastic harbor views.

Day 9: Scenic drive • Trogir
Wednesday, November 4, 2026

Appreciate more dramatic views as you travel the coastal road along sheer cliffs that drop into the beautiful Adriatic Sea. Stop in the historic town of Trogir to see its medieval buildings, churches, and towers. Enjoy time to shop and grab a bite to eat before continuing north. This afternoon features a scenic drive through Croatia’s most beautiful countryside. Later, arrive in the Plitvice Lakes National Park area for dinner with your fellow travelers and your overnight stay.

Day 10: Plitvice Lakes National Park
Thursday, November 5, 2026

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Plitvice Lakes National Park is a scenic wonderland of 16 interconnecting lakes flanked by waterfalls and forest. Visit Korana Canyon to see the 230-foot-high falls and panoramic views. We’ll also embark on a scenic boat excursion for up-close views of the park’s unique natural features. After arriving at the hotel in Zagreb, enjoy a wine and beer reception followed by a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
