The resort city of Nice is our home base for seven nights as we explore coastal towns, hilltop villages, and artistic heritage in the French and Italian Rivieras. Walk through markets and grand squares in Nice, wander the medieval cobblestone streets of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, and visit Cézanne’s studio in Aix-en-Provence. In Èze, step inside a working perfumery before continuing along the stunning peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. A day in Italy brings us to Ventimiglia and La Pigna, while Monaco and Cannes offer their own glamour, from royal landmarks to seaside promenades.

Day 1: Flight to Europe

Begin your journey with an overnight flight to Europe.

 

Day 2: Arrive in Nice
Thursday, March 11, 2027

Arrive in Nice, France, where you’ll meet your tour director and transfer to your hotel for a seven-night stay in the French Riviera. Nice is the fourth-largest city in France and is well known for its beautiful waterfront, the Promenade des Anglais. This evening, enjoy a wine and beer reception followed by dinner with your fellow Our State travelers.

Day 3: Nice city tour • Saint-Paul-de-Vence
Friday, March 12, 2027

Learn about the elegant city of Nice — whose exceptional climate contributes to its year-round charm — on a city tour. Visit Nice’s largest church, Notre Dame, built between 1864 and 1868, and the square that has been home to a flower market for more than a century and a marketplace since Roman times. This afternoon, take a short ride to the medieval Saint-Paul-de-Vence, a walled hilltop village composed of cobbled corridors and lanes. Artists like Picasso, Matisse, and Chagall lived here for periods of time to capture its beauty.

Day 4: Aix-en-Provence • Cézanne’s studio
Saturday, March 13, 2027

Travel to Aix-en-Provence, the city of art and light. During your tour, explore this small, classically Provençal town, famous for being home to French painter Paul Cézanne. Aix is ancient, with roots as a Celtic-Ligurian capital dating to the third century BC. Visit Cézanne’s studio, preserved as it was when the artist died in 1906. During your free time, enjoy lunch or coffee as you explore the shops and quaint streets. Just east of Aix, take in views of Montagne Sainte-Victoire, the mountain range that inspired many of Cézanne’s paintings. This afternoon, enjoy the scenery as you drive back to Nice.

Day 5: Èze • Fragonard Perfumery • Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
Sunday, March 14, 2027

Visit Èze, a medieval village with excellent views of the Mediterranean coast. Here, you’ll learn the secrets of perfume making during a hands-on workshop and tour of the Fragonard Perfumery, where fragrances have been prepared since 1782. Spend time exploring the village, including its craft shops and Exotic Garden. Then head to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, often referred to as the crown jewel of the French Riviera. This beautiful peninsula is known for its scenic coastline, beaches, high-end real estate, and easy access to the excitement of the riviera, making it a popular destination for the rich and famous. Return to Nice and enjoy dinner with your fellow travelers.

Day 6: Italian Riviera
Monday, March 15, 2027

Travel by motor coach to the seaside town of Ventimiglia, Italy, to wander its cobbled streets. Continue to Sanremo, the capital of the Italian Riviera, to explore the old medieval town of La Pigna, known for its steep streets, covered alleys, and small squares. Return to Nice in the late afternoon.

Day 7: Monte Carlo, Monaco
Tuesday, March 16, 2027

Today, travel to the principality of Monaco, a tiny city-state on the Mediterranean surrounded by France. The most famous district is Monte Carlo, known for its casino and its role as a center of international social life. Enjoy a Monte Carlo area tour, including the 19th-century Romanesque cathedral, the site of Princess Grace’s tomb. Complete your visit with time at the famous Casino de Monte Carlo. Dinner is included this evening in the Nice area.

Day 8: Antibes • Cannes
Wednesday, March 17, 2027

Begin the day with a visit to Antibes. Explore the old town on a walking tour with a local guide to see its ancient ramparts and cobbled lanes, and learn about its maritime history. Visit the Picasso Museum to view works by Pablo Picasso and other artists. Continue to Cannes, known for its film festival, luxury shopping, and beautiful beaches. Enjoy time to wander, shop, and have lunch on your own along the Croisette Promenade. Return to your hotel in Nice later this afternoon. This evening, join your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner.
