Event Coordinator

Our State magazine is searching for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to serve as Event Coordinator. As a member of the marketing team, the Event Coordinator will successfully plan and implement events to ensure high visibility and continued growth and engagement of the Our State readership. The Event Coordinator will manage Our State’s participation in festivals and special events across the state, in addition to planning and assisting with a variety of custom Our State events to engage current and new readers of the magazine.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and coordinate Our State’s event participation around the state to ensure that Our State has an appropriate presence and is well-represented at events, festivals, and activities across North Carolina
  • Manage all logistics of event participation and sponsorships, including booth materials, magazine shipments, signage, etc.
  • Design, order, and maintain promotional materials for events
  • Assist in the selection and training of brand ambassadors/event liaisons
  • Create, plan, organize, staff, and execute promotional events and activities
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams on event sponsorships and Our State participation
  • Meet with clients as needed to help pitch, brainstorm, plan, and create events
  • Work with the marketing team to create and execute custom Our State events
  • Maintain an effective working relationship and open communication with cross-functional teams to build event promotional plans and collaborate on company-wide projects, such as the Made in NC Awards
  • Work festivals and special events throughout the year
  • Assist with Our State events including the Best of Our State, Meet the Maker: Farm-to-Table Dinner, Made in NC Awards, and others
  • May assist with the Our State Travel Club as needed


  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or marketing
  • Minimum of 3 years in marketing, public relations, and/or community relations or related field
  • Must have event planning experience
  • Must have a high energy level and feel comfortable representing Our State
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • A self-starter with strong follow-up skills who can work effectively under pressure
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Prefer some understanding of digital/social marketing
  • Availability to travel and work some weekends and evenings throughout the year

Digital Content Producer

North Carolina’s premier media company, Our State, is seeking a highly skilled Digital Content Producer. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned storyteller, who possesses strong creative skills and is capable of shaping a powerful story. This is a hands-on role, where you will be required to oversee the entire process of content development of videos and articles — from ideation to the launch — while adhering to deadlines and ensuring that deliverables are met. The Digital Content Producer will create content calendars and status sheets and help manage content programs for both editorial projects and advertising clients. This producer will be responsible for communicating the Our State brand to clients and assisting the team in championing the voice of the advertiser. The ideal candidate understands how to tell stories and create rich content engagement experiences. You will work directly with the Digital Manager and the digital and sales teams. Successful candidates will have an extensive knowledge of North Carolina.

Position Duties:

  • Collaborate with the digital team to create exceptional content across multiple channels to enhance stories told in the magazine
  • Generate ideas and plan content strategically across a wide variety of digital and print content projects for both editorial and sales functions
  • Produce and manage video productions from concept to successful completion with the assistance of contract videographers
  • Interact with clients to assess their marketing needs and gather information on their products, brand, marketplace, audience and competitors
  • Assign projects to freelance writers, videographers, photographers, and illustrators and manage their work flow to ensure projects are completed
  • Anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet tight deadlines with limited supervision
  • Generate smart and engaging copy with the ability to adapt tone and theme to fit different audience demographics

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field

Account Supervisor

We are looking for an Account Supervisor who will play a critical role within our fast-paced advertising sales team. The Account Supervisor will be responsible for growing revenue across multiple platforms, through the development and sale of creative advertising solutions. The ideal candidate will be dynamic, tenacious, and results-driven, with a track record of developing and securing new business.

Position Duties:

  • Drive event, digital, and print advertising sales, by developing new revenue opportunities, opening new categories of business, and shaping future monetization opportunities
  • Develop short-and long-term sales programs and initiatives to maximize revenues
  • Own, manage, and develop relationships with clients, agencies, and advertisers though day-to-day interactions
  • Understand customer needs and look for opportunities to develop customizable, creative solutions across all platforms, including digital, print, and events that meet client needs
  • Keep abreast of the continually evolving advertising marketplace, customers, and competition in order to conceive and effectively execute a sales strategy that generates leads and drives results

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of selling experience in Advertising Sales, both print and digital

Account Associate

We are searching for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to serve as Account Associate. The Account Associate will provide support/assistance for the Account Supervisor and the Sales Manager. The Account Associate is responsible for increasing sales, renewals of existing accounts, lead generation and qualification. For a specified time frame, the Account Associate position should serve as the training ground and grooming period for an Account Supervisor position.

Position Duties:

  • Assist sales team/member in handling inquiries, quotes, orders, issues, and general follow-up
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of sales products and the production process
  • Work both independently and within a team on developing both print and digital programs for key and target accounts with a goal of increasing revenue across multiple platforms
  • Assist sales team/member in going on sales calls each week
  • Work with agencies, marketing directors, and media buyers to understand their media strategy, goals, campaign objectives, and to develop strategies to help them meet their goals
  • Learn and assist reps with CRM database, including notes and data clean up
  • Continuously keep abreast of competitive media trends
  • Assist with prospecting and building proposals

Editorial Internships

Our State offers internships during fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Internships positions are for 10 hours a week, unpaid, and offer opportunity for experience in several areas: research, proofing, writing, and editing. Interns also help with fact-checking, indexing, assembling copy for our website, and other general duties. Our State interns work closely with the editorial team and have the opportunity to produce portfolio-worthy clips. We prefer students who are pursuing a degree in journalism or English. Experience working on a student or local publication is a huge plus. Upon successful completion of their internship, students can pitch a story that may result in a paid writing assignment published in Our State magazine.
