What happens now?
JUDGING:
Judging was conducted by a panel of professional photographers and Our State staff. All eligible photographs were judged on originality, technical excellence, overall impact, and artistic merit.
Judges selected 48 finalists, including a contest grand prize winner (from across all categories) and a first place photo from each category. Photos in the finalist pool will be eligible for voting for Readers’ Choice favorite photo. Reader’s Choice voting will occur between April 24 and May 1. A single photo will not win more than one accolade during the contest.
The winning images will be announced by May 4, 2012.
READERS’ CHOICE VOTING:
Voting begins here between April 24 at noon and May 1, 2012 at noon. Readers may cast one vote per day per registered user. Based on those votes, a Readers’ Choice photo will be named. A single image will not win more than one accolade in the contest.
The winning image will appear online at ourstate.com, but will NOT be published in the print edition of Our State magazine.
Photos in this year’s contest were submitted into one of four categories:
- Spring in Bloom (close up shots of flowers or plants)
- Spring Landscapes & Scenics (wide, broad shots capturing large areas)
- Rural Life in the Spring (scenes of spring in rural areas, on farms, etc)
- Towns & Cities in the Spring (shots of spring in urban areas)
Prizes
Prizes for this contest are coordinated by Our State Magazine and include:
- Grand Prize Winner (as chosen from across all categories by the judges) – $250 Visa® Gift Card
- Category Winners (in four main categories, as chosen by the judges) – Our State Gift Basket, valued at $60
- Readers Choice Category Winner (as determined by vote counts by readers) – Our State Gift Basket, valued at $60
- Total prizes for this contest are valued at more than $550 and prize package details are outlined in the Official Contest Rules.

Does the close up category only pertain to flowers and plants, or will mushrooms also be accepted?
