Carolina Crostini

Carolina Crostini

Makes about 30 pieces.

  • 3 small loaves of breakfast bread, cut into half-inch thick slices
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons sugar

Preheat oven to 350º. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Arrange bread slices on the baking sheet. Generously brush butter over the bread slices. Sprinkle the slices with sugar. Bake until crostini are crisp and golden, about 15-20 minutes, turning once. Let cool before adding toppings.

Carolina Crostini Toppings include:

cream cheese
mascarpone cheese
chocolate hazelnut spread
marmalade
strawberry jam
raspberries
sliced strawberries
sliced kiwi
pistachio nuts
slivered toasted almonds
miniature marshmellows

Choose the combination of the above toppings as your sweet tooth dictates. A good formula is to choose a base, like cream cheese or mascarpone, and then add a dab of jam, a couple of berries, and a sprinkling of nuts. Or try hazelnut spread, a couple of tiny marshmallows, and a few almonds.
