In 1893, the Rocky Mount depot was built by the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad. The Atlantic Coast Line rebuilt it in 1912, and again in 1916.
Since restoration was completed in 2000, passengers wait for eight daily trains in an airy lobby under skylights and antique lamps, or peruse exhibits of famous people who passed through Rocky Mount, like author Jack Kerouac.
