Moyock resident A.B. Coleman donates 1,065 acres of Gates County land to create Merchants Millpond State Park. The State reports on the event, calling the new park “a fairyland of beauty you’ll soon be able to visit.” Coleman believes that “we must save [the land] for future generations to see, study, and enjoy. A state park would preserve the area in its natural state, protecting it from overdevelopment and commercialization.”
